MOON ART | MEMENTO MATRIA

Memento Matria is a sacred remembrance of the feminine origin.

This artwork depicts 28 vulvas encircling a central vagina, created from a lunar cohort of women who gathered in Mexico on Día de los Muertos to study, tend and remember the wisdom of women’s wombs and bodies. Held within the thin veil between life and death, the circle became a living rite that carried us through tectonic inner shifts, initiations and profound reckonings.

Each vulva represented in this piece is a living portal and a testimony of lineage, vulnerability, power and truth. Together, they form a mandala of sisterhood where shadow wounds were witnessed, honored and gently transmuted through ritual tending.

At the center lies the anatomical vagina, the axis mundi of the work. It stands as both origin and threshold where creation, blood, pleasure, grief and death all converge. From this portal, the feminine principle is celebrated and remembered in its raw, unapologetic reality.

Created during a time when the ancestors are closest, Memento Matria holds the prayer that through death we remember life and through the womb we remember who we are. It is an offering to the Great Mother, to the sisters who came before and to those yet to come.
This piece invites reverence for the true seat of womankind.
