I wrote this song while I was on the edge of exhaustion, during our final retreat of Ma School after 18-months of becoming Womb Continuum Practitioners.
Each morning in the shores of Mexico, I let the ocean hold me and mother me back to myself, wave after wave.
I came to the ocean with nothing, and I left with a song.
A prayer. A remembering. An offering.
With my new drum in hand (it was crafted by my dearest artisan friend in devotion to the feminine and soon available in my shop), I offered this song to my mentors, my sisters, the land, the work, and my own healing heart.
This melody carries the echoes of all of us.
It’s a thread back to what we’ve never truly lost, but only forgotten.
To the body.
To the breath.
To the blood.
To the bones.
To the women who came before us, and those who walk beside us now.
May it ripple outward the way it came in:
Gently, honestly, from the center of the womb.
Thank you to my beloved video maker Miriam for capturing the essence of my work, and for being a curious learner in it with me.
And We Remember. Always.
We Remember
Verse 1
We came from the blood
We came from the bone
We carry the stories
That were never our own
We called to the land
The land called us home
The waters received us
The wild winds have blown
Chorus
And we remember, we remember°
The womb is the way
And we remember, we remember
We rise when we stay
Verse 2
We worked with our hands
We breathed through the pain
We buried the silence
We danced with the flame
Our sisters beside us
Our bodies the drum
We called back the wisdom
Of where we are from
Chorus
And we remember, we remember
The womb is the way
And we remember, we remember
We rise when we stay
Bridge
This is the school
Of marrow and tide
Of letting the holy
Be what we hide
This is the path
Of blood and of grace
The rhythm of woman
In time and in place
Chorus
And we remember, we remember
The womb is the way
And we remember, we remember
We rise when we stay (x3)
